This verse keeps haunting me... in a good way. It is motivating me in the direction to live more in the fear of the Lord than self-worship. I say self-worship because that is what it really is, is it not? It' s either God on the throne of our hearts or self. We're either consumed with thoughts of our Precious Jesus or encumbered with the 'our life' as it is at the present moment.
This then takes me to the next thought...Who's faith are you standing for? Yours or God's? If God were to reply what would He utter? Has faith in Christ really become our very own or is it merely only in word?
I have a friend who has good morals (doesn't smoke or drink, has never slept with anyone, etc.) Now you wonder why? (I might add this person isn't a Christian). What drives their life to make such moral choices? When asked, the simple reply came back as, 'I don't know. I don't know what drives my life...Nothing drives my life...' I was like...'So you have all these good morals but with no reason behind them?' 'Because I'll get '(nothing)' if I do those things.' Wow! I was both amazed that such a stand would be taken but also the loss of meaning behind their manner of life. I don't know about you, but I'd have to have a reason why I do what I do. Why do I make certain stands or choose to bypass another? Why not go out and enjoy life for a season if there is nothing worth living for?
I cringe at the thought of what will become of my friend. When push comes to shove...what direction will they give to? So it is with us. There must needs be a firm grounding in the Truths of the Word in order to be stayed upon Jehovah.
Somehow the word 'firm' keeps staring at me. What does it mean to stand firm? How firm is firm? Why firm? What are the consequences if I'm not firm? And the blessing which should come should I obey it's beckoning?
Ah Lord God! I pray my feeble life be of one so FIRMLY grounded in You that nothing will take me by surprise. And should tempests arise above my head, Lord, hold my hand.
Jesus Hold My Hand
As I travel thru this pilgrim land
There is a Friend who walks with me,
Leads me safely thru the sinking sand,
It is the Christ of Calvary;
This would be my pray'r, dear Lord, each day
To help me do the best I can,
For I need Thy light to guide me day and night
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.
Chorus
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand,
Yes, I need Thee ev'ry hour,
Thru this land, this pilgrim land
(Protect me) by Thy saving pow'r;
Hear my plea, my feeble plea,
Lord, dear Lord, look down on me,
When I kneel in prayer,
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.
Let me travel in the light divine
That I may see the blessed way;
Keep me that I may be wholly Thine
And sing redemption's song some day;
I would be a soldier brave and true
And ever firmly take a stand,
As I onward go and daily meet the foe,
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.
Chorus
When I wander thru the valley dim
Toward the setting of the sun,
Lead me safely to a land of rest
If I a crown of life have won;
I have put my faith in Thee, dear Lord,
That I may reach the golden strand,
There's no other friend on whom I can depend,
Blessed Jesus, hold my hand.

My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they were set upon my neck; he caused my my strength to fail; the Lord gave me into the hands of those I cannot withstand. Lamentations 1:14
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1
Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand firm. Ephesians 6:13
And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Hear me, Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established; believe his prophets, and you will succeed." 2 Chronicles 20:20
May the Savior find each of us be found worthy of, 'All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.'
