As Peter

Ever go through seasons where you are sure of your faith and adamant you'd stand whatever storm was given to your allotment? This month I've committed to reading the New Testament. As I've been reading, any references to this man has been popping out at me. He is a man of boldness. One who speaks out. One who isn't afraid to rebuke. One who dares to do as Christ. One who sometimes is so adamant about his own standing he does the very thing he said he wouldn't. Peter. That was his name. So...I've done a little research on the man Peter. And while it is a lengthy post I hope you'll still at least skim through it. Without further adieu let us proceed.

66. John 21:21
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?

I found it interesting that Peter is mentioned so many times. We see him as the inquisitive disciple to one yearning to know to being adamant to denying his Lord. Just as we are at times.  A friend and I were talking about this while back.

  • "Ah, but Jesus chose Peter, most likely precisely because of his natural tendencies.
  • I'd far rather have a passionate, motivated person on my team than one I have to kick in the rear. Even if they were a bit unpredictable.
  • I would rather ride a spirited horse than a dead-broke horse I had to kick all the time to move.
  • God want's us to express our unruly hearts before him. To live as the person we are."

At times I see myself in the very steps of Peter. I am so confident of what I truly desire-to know and love my Lord Jesus and yet there are times I stumble. It's been a process but the Lord has been teaching me to praise Him for those times in which I find myself coming to Him on bended knee. Then I remember, He didn't tell us that just because I'd receive Him as Savior all would be honky-dory...no, not the least.

The bottom note I believe is this: be not as the mule or horse; but be teachable.
